“In the context of the Academic Heritage Day 202 “In the context of the Academic Heritage Day 2020 I am sending you enclosed 3 photos of a piece of my collection, a 19th century Holy Bible printed in Cambridge and translated intο Greek. It came to me from my mother whose origin was from Egypt. The owner, a high school student in Beirut as mentioned in the second page, has the same family name as my mother, so I suppose he was a relative which makes this book important to me as a family piece.
Thank you for giving me the opportunity to share this book with you.

Our theodolite still shows the damage caused by the bombing. It can’t be used for its original purpose anymore. A mute witness. But not silent. This object bears the wounds of World War II trauma - and gives us hope, reminding us: Never again! It is up to us. Every day.”

Object with war damages: With this theodolite students used to learn the basics of surveying. In 1944 the object and its wooden box were damaged by explosive bombs. The theodolite is part of the geodetic collection of #JLUGiessen. #academicheritageday2020
“A sword is used to keep enemies or the opponent “A sword is used to keep enemies or the opponents at a distance, or it can connect people through the athletic spirit. Such an item, exposed in the Athens Criminology Museum, is the fencing sword of Professor John Georgiadis, who was the creator of the museum and the winner in fencing competition, with a gold medal, of the A’ Olympic Games of the recent era, held in Athens in 1896.

“The anatomical model horse manufactured by famous Dr. Auzoux of Paris was bought for Halle University (Germany) in 1874 enhancing the quality in teaching young vets. The life-sized horse is made of 127 removable parts and carries about 4000 little labels with the names of anatomical features. This purchase, financed by donations, shows that even after years of war the scientific friendship between France and Germany were strong as ever. Photo: Katarzyna Cholewinska.”
